One of my favorite wines in the Vin de Mistral series is the exuberant, medium to full-bodied, lusciously made Vin de Mistral Grenache Rose. The 1997 exhibits a deep strawberry color, followed by a knock-out nose of kirsch, berry fruit, cherries, and pepper. It is a serious, flavorful rose meant to be drunk within one year of release. It is made primarily from Grenache, with a touch of Mourvedre added for structure.Tel. (707) 963-2745; Fax (707) 963-4831
The medium ruby-colored 1995 Vin du Mistral Grenache Rose is darker than most roses. It offers up a fresh, pure nose of strawberries and framboise. Fleshy, with excellent flavor, and lusty alcohol in the long finish, this is one of the finest roses made in California.Tel. (707) 963-2745
Joseph Phelps' newest releases include a stunning rose, the 1994 Vin du Mistral Grenache Rose. One of the finest California roses yet produced, this crisp, lively wine offers gobs of berry fruit, a rich, medium to full-bodied, a surprisingly extracted personality, fragrant aromas, and excellent richness and length.
